Louisiana is working to bring its water law into the 21st Century. The state’s water law affects coastal restoration efforts, interstate water transfers, surface water rights, groundwater wells for agriculture and municipal supply, and the future of industry in Louisiana. Updating Louisiana’s water law will take not only legal and policy experts, but scientists and technicians. An effort to craft a comprehensive water code for the state has begun, and this presentation will address where it is, where it hopes to go, and what roles we all can play.
